Contacting via Social Media
To obtain a good story for my feature article, first, I researched social media for local Sri Lankan artisans with the highest number of followers and likes. Then, I reached out to them via messages, explaining my requirement. Some, I contacted through WhatsApp, intending to interview them for a lead article in a DIY craft magazine.
However, to my disappointment, none of them responded. I can't blame them, as there is intense competition in selling handmade products in Sri Lanka. Many artisans may not be open to interviews simply because they are too busy or because building a relationship with them first is essential. Additionally, these artisans are scattered across the country, with many residing in rural areas outside Colombo.

Finally a success!I was fortunate to connect with Migara Alupathage from "I Am Upcycled", who kindly agreed to an interview. She not only shared her insights but also provided detailed instructions on how to make earrings from tin cans.

The marketing lady did not reply to my mail, however she gave another contact( Facebook account) for me to try when I was having a conversation with her.
Learning outcome
To conduct a good interview for a magazine feature article, it’s important to first get to know the person that I am interviewing. Understanding their background, interests, achievements, and personality helps to prepare thoughtful and relevant questions. It also allows me to build a connection with the interviewee, making them feel more comfortable and open during the conversation.
